FAQs

What type of Hebrew School is this, and what is so special about it?

The Hebrew School of the Performing Arts is a unique Hebrew school designed to teach Judaic subjects solely through the creative and performing arts.

How is this program unique?

Here is a sample of the creative educational approach to learning:

  • Gymnastics and movement introduces letter/sound connection, e.g. making the shapes of the letters with their bodies

  • Kinesthetic activities provide for greater retention and involvement. e.g marching across the Balance Beam for the letter Bet

  • Using varied art mediums to practice Aleph-Bet writing

  • Learn to understand and speak Hebrew in an art class, where the projects are all lead in Hebrew

  • Beginners Dance introduces the concepts of the Parsha/Jewish Holidays

  • Art projects for upcoming Jewish Holidays

  • Games and activities on a giant physical map of Israel, which introduces the major cities and landmarks and their locations

  • Baby Boot Camp

  • Prayers will be taught through use of song and musical instruments

How big is the program?

We know that children with learning differences benefit from small group and individualized instruction.  We keep class size at 6 girls per class and add new classes as they fill.

Who is on the rabbinical committee?

Currently, we have begun to bring together our Rabbinical Committee which includes Rabbi Hopfer and Rabbi Rose.

Who is it for?

This program is designed for children in grades 1-8, who do not go to Jewish Day Schools because of learning differences.

What are the goals of this Hebrew School?

Here are our top 3:

1) To provide a robust Jewish education to students who cannot be in Jewish Day schools because of their learning differences.

2) Teaching students in a multi-sensory approach where the students leave class having had so much fun, while learning the material.

3) Provide a social community for the students to make new friends and walk away with a love and appreciation of all things Jewish.

Can I sign up on a weekly basis?

This program is by semester only, so we cannot accept weekly signups now. Your child can get the most benefit from our program by consistent attendance. Plus, she will enjoy it so much, she will be begging for more!
